Man Mo Temple

Third day of the lunar year of the Rat, 27.01.2020

First year of the Pandemic

The photograph was taken with a pinhole camera obscura, historically the first form of photography.

There is no single viewpoint from which the entire image can be seen. To see all of it, you must walk along the image. In that way, the viewing experience is similar to the viewing of Chinese scrolls. But while the scroll is presented flat on the wall, adopting Scatter perspective for pictorial coherence, this image is presented curved and was created by the very tool fundamental to the formation of western Single Point perspective.

This work is part of ongoing research into the choreography of the movements of the spectator in the presence of a work of art.

Man Mo Temple was part of “RpG 2020” on October 2020 at the AVA gallery in Hong Kong.
